Getting ready for the pickup
- Empty and defrost fridges and freezers a day ahead — meltwater in the truck is the one thing that makes a clean job messy.
- Turn off the water supply to the washer or dishwasher before we arrive. We uncouple existing connections, but we are not licensed to do gas or new plumbing work.
- Gas ranges must be disconnected by a qualified technician first. Once the line is capped, we take the range.
- Photograph the path out, not just the appliance — a stair turn or basement bulkhead is what decides whether we need two people.

Appliance removal questions from Richmond
My strata requires insurance on file before anyone uses the service elevator. Can you provide it?
Yes. Ask and we will send our certificate of insurance straight to your building manager or strata agent before the visit, which is usually all they need to release the elevator booking. Give them a day where you can — some Richmond management companies only process these on weekdays.
Will you take a rusted washer that has been in the garage for years?
Yes. Rust is cosmetic as far as removal goes, and the unit goes to metal recycling either way. The only thing to check is the floor: a long-stored washer often leaves a dried puddle and grit under it, and we will get that grit out from under it as we go.
Do fridges and freezers cost extra because of the refrigerant?
No. Sealed cooling units carry an eco-fee at the depot because the refrigerant has to be reclaimed by a certified handler, and that fee is already inside the price you are quoted. The one thing we cannot do is take a unit whose lines have already been cut, since the refrigerant is gone and the depot will refuse it.
Can you disconnect the appliance, or does it need to be ready to go?
We unplug, uncouple a washer's hoses and pull a dryer vent that is already accessible. Anything needing a licensed trade — gas lines, hard-plumbed water, electrical rewiring — has to be handled before we arrive. If in doubt, send a photo of the connection and we will tell you which side of the line it falls on.
